Emergency Response Ministry

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Emergency Response Ministry is to help those who have suffered the devastating effects of natural disasters; such as those victimized by Hurricane Katrina.

What is This Ministry About?

The ministry began its initial work in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina destroyed so many lives on the Gulf Coast. Operating on the generosity of the parish, these volunteers volunteered time, money, work and prayer for a parish in New Orleans, St. Anthony of Padua.

By organizing trips over weekends and holidays, they were able to help the school open by the beginning of the year 2006, barely four months after the storm, make St. Anthony of Padua the second Catholic school to reopen in New Orleans.

Parishioners cleaned, scrubbed, moved trash, painted, cooked, laid tile, and many, many other chores. St. Anthony of Padua has become a sister parish to us spiritually and emotionally. This ministry has chosen to stay together to see what further assistance they can be and to have a process in place to help others.

When Does This Ministry Meet?

The ministry meets on as-needed basis.

How Can One Become Involved in This Ministry?

Anyone is welcome to become involved in this ministry and various talents are always needed. In the event of a response to a disastrous situation for our fellow Christians there will be announcements made at the Sunday Mass services and posted in our bulletin if and when there is a situation that calls for us to help others.

One way we can help, is to always pray for those in any disastrous situation. Your thoughtfulness and enthusiasm to help is always appreciated.
